Answers

What should I expect when I arrive for my first Spa at Stonecrest's appointment?

For your first appointment, you'll want to arrive a half-hour early, so you have sufficient time to complete the start-up paperwork.

Because you are receiving a medical treatment, we do require that you fill out the standard forms and consents as would be required in a doctor's office.

Once your chart is filled out and your initial consultation has been completed, subsequent visits will require less time. The majority of The Spa at Stonecrest treatments can be performed in less than a half hour.

Filling out the required The Spa at Stonecrest paperwork does not bind you to receive any treatments. You'll be able to talk with your Spa at Stonecrest's Medical Staff personally and both agree on the treatment course you'll take along with each specific procedure you'd like to receive.

How should I prepare for my aesthetic medicine procedure?

For any of The Spa at Stonecrest Laser's Hair Removal procedures, you'll need to shave the area to be treated as closely as possible prior to your visit. Do not wax, use depilatory creams, pluck or be actively tanning at the time of your treatment. You must have active hair growth in order for the laser to be effective.

Although the Cutera's Nd-YAG is specially designed to treat all skin types you should not tan for a period of 48 hours before and after your YAG treatment.

For Laser Skin Rejuvenation & Problem Area Reduction, it's important not to wear make-up for facial treatments. You'll want to avoid consuming alcohol, blood thinners (including aspirin, Ibuprofen, Ginko and St. John's Wart) for 10 days prior to your treatment. You'll need to shave the skin being treated if it's in a hair growth area. Do not use Retin-A, Renova, glycolic acids, vitamin C or alpha-hydroxy acid products for five days prior to treatment. Finally, it's crucial that you avoid excessive sun exposure for two weeks before and after the laser procedure.

For Botox® Cosmetic and Restylane® dermal filler, our medical doctor will consult with you and can usually administer the treatment on the spot, without any specific preparation on the patient's part. Unlike collagen, Restylane® is biocompatible and does not require skin testing. Therefore, Restylane® treatments can be performed at the time of consultation.

How should I expect to pay for The Spa at Stonecrest treatments and services?

All treatments provided by The Spa at Stonecrest are paid for at time of service. Financing is available for your convenience as well.

For certain procedures, you may also purchase packages of multiple treatments in advance at a discount. Our staff can advise you of our pricing and specials.

The Spa at Stonecrest accepts cash, checks (with a valid driver's license number) and all major credit cards.

What is the Cost of Laser Hair Removal and other Cosmetic Procedures?

There are many factors that influence the cost. Treatment costs vary with the size of the area treated hair type and skin type. Cost of removing hair with a laser can also be dependent upon the number of treatments that we believe will be needed. Generally, laser hair removal can have less overall cost than the alternative electrolysis or repeated waxing.

At The Spa at Stonecrest we have developed a cost structure that includes the following:

How permanent are the laser treatments? Is it laser hair removal or reduction? Is it laser hair removal a Permanent Solution?

The Nd-YAG laser destroys with each treatment about 20% of the follicles in the active growth phase (Anagen). Six to ten hair reduction treatments assure the longest-term efficacy (depending on hair location). A consultation and a potential touch-up appointment are recommended the following year after completion of all treatments.

The effectiveness of laser hair removal depends on the characteristics of the individual. Genetics, Skin type, hair type and pigment are all factors that can determine the outcome for a person. Our clients come to us with a wide array of skin types, hair types and hair problems, but the commonality is their desire for permanent removal. Based on these individual factors, it is our job to determine the best choice of laser and best treatment plan that will produce the most desirable results.

Is it painful?

Although no treatment to remove unwanted hair is completely painless, compared to waxing and electrolysis, laser hair removal is the treatment of choice. For large and sensitive areas, a topical anesthetic may be applied.

How many treatments does it take?

Usually 6-10 treatments depending on the skin type and thickness of hair growth spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart.

Are there any pre-treatment instructions?

Yes, you cannot have tanned skin before laser hair removal treatments, either from tanning creams or sun exposure. The hair is to be clean-shaven for the procedure. Also no waxing, electrolysis or tweezing prior to the procedure.

What are the after effects of laser hair removal?

Clients may experience brief swelling and redness in the treatment area lasting about several hours to several days. Clients can return to normal activities but need to avoid sun exposure unless using maximum protection with sunscreens. The hair treated will thin out over the next several weeks after each treatment.

How do the laser treatments work?

All The Spa at Stonecrest laser procedures are performed utilizing Cutera's - the Xeo and the Cool Glide Platform. This safe, state-of-the-art technology provides the most effective results available in the industry.

You and your Spa at Stonecrest's Medical Professional will wear protective eyewear during the short laser treatment. Your doctor or nurse will use a small hand piece to deliver the laser pulses to your skin. For most treatments, you'll feel a probe touch your skin which is a scanner with an integrated cooling plate using an advanced technology. By using a cooled copper plate we can achieve rapid heat removal five times faster compared with other lasers, protecting the upper layer of the skin during each laser pulse.

The laser delivers an intense-but-gentle burst of light to the skin, where it emits a controlled amount of therapeutic heat. The light is absorbed by the blood vessels in the dermis, the water in your skin to varying degrees, sebaceous glands or hair follicles - depending on your specific treatment and laser used.

Your Spa at Stonecrest Medical professional will explain what to expect from your individual laser treatment(s). For example, the Nd:YAG laser will penetrate into the skin and in and around sebaceous glands. The heating of the sebaceous glands creates a mild thermal injury that changes the structure and function of the glands, so that after the first treatment, you'll start to see a reduction in the number of acne lesions on the skin. Likewise, blood vessels affected by the Clearscan are coagulated and then reabsorbed by the body during the natural healing process.

The Spa at Stonecrest offers special discount packages as an incentive for you to receive full six to ten treatments for maximum effectiveness. Each treatment typically takes about 15 minutes (after your initial consultation), though specific procedures will require more than a half hour and up (depending on the amount of skin surface being treated i.e. Nd-YAG hair removal for your back or legs).

How long are the procedures? How much time can I expect to spend at The Spa at Stonecrest for a laser or Botox®, Restylane® procedure?

Each treatment Botox® Cosmetic or Restylane® or a specific laser procedure - usually takes around 15-20 minutes each - including your free consultation. Some laser procedures, especially hair reduction for the back or legs, will take twice or even three times as long, depending on the surface area to be treated. Restylane® may also take more time, depending on how many syringes you elect to receive (allow an additional 10 minutes per syringe).

Of course, it's important to arrive at least 15 minutes to a half- hour early for your first appointment, as you'll need to fill out a standard medical chart and consent forms before your first procedure.

Are there any side effects to Botox® Cosmetic? Is it unsafe?

Botox® has been approved by the FDA for over 30 years. In April, 2002 the FDA approved Botox for cosmetic use. Originally utilized for successfully treating palsy-suffering patients, Botox® has had success with millions of patients. There are instances of an allergic reaction to Botox, but instances are rare and not permanent. Your treating doctor or nurse will assess your history during the free consult, and answer your specific questions.

How long does (The Spa at Stonecrest) Botox® last?

The Spa at Stonecrest uses the manufacturer's guidelines for all our treatments. At the manufacturer's recommended dilution of Botox®, it should last up to six months.

How long does Restylane® last?

Studies have shown that the average treatment results last six months or even longer.

How many syringes of Restylane® will I need?

It depends on what kind of results you're seeking. If you're addressing your dermal folds or smile lines, typically a syringe administered to each side of the mouth will give you your desired results. The lips usually take a syringe also. Your Spa At Stonecrest's Physician will recommend the amount that is right for you.

Are there any side effects to Restylane?

Patients occasionally may bruise the next day, but the effects dissipate within 7 to 10 days.

What makes Restylane® different from or better than Collagen?

Unlike Collagen, Restylane® is biodegradable and non-animal based; it's made of natural dermal fillers found in your body. So, unlike Collagen, skin-testing is not required. You can get the treatment right after your consultation. There's no limit to how much Restylane® you can elect to have administered; and the doctor can actually smooth the Restylane around to even the filler out in the treated area. The Spa At Stonecrest doesn't use Collagen, because Restylane® is so superior.

Which procedure (Botox / Restylane / Laser treatments) should I choose?

Many of The Spa at Stonecrest's cosmetic enhancement procedures are complimentary to each other. You can choose all of them, and we offer incentives for signing up for combination packages.

Our Physicians will talk to you about your optimum sequence of cosmetic enhancement. She will also discuss how all The Spa at Stonecrest Laser procedures can be part of your complete makeover and upkeep.

Are the laser or injectible procedures painful? Will I receive some sort of numbing cream?

Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with the laser pulse, sometimes described as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. This discomfort during laser treatments is minimized by Cutera's integrated cooling plate technology.

For injectibles Restylane® and Botox® Cosmetic treatments, The Spa at Stonecrest Physicians use the smallest needles to administer the cosmetic solutions, though you may feel a slight pinch and pressure under the skin.

Use of numbing cream is available, but limited at the Spa at Stonecrest. Ask our Medical Professional more about this during your consultation
